CYNDAR safety light curtains protect the safety of plant personnel around the world. However, even though the technology was developed nearly 70 years ago, many applications may still underutilize its capabilities. We try to re-evaluate the contribution of light curtains to your machinery safety, plant control and productivity by subdividing the currently available functions and features. Light curtains have become so common that it is easy to think of them as simple on/off devices-a fail-safe, install and forget alternative to protective fences. However, more and more multifunctional light curtains have been developed to perform multiple functions, they can make a positive contribution to productivity, and are integrated with the factory LAN to support better plant-wide automation.
